The Dragon Club is a social club for adults with learning disabilities. The name was chosen by the members, so perhaps does lack a certain marketing credibility but does show that they have a lively imagination!
It is a registered charity that offers a wide range of activities including:- pool, darts. skittles, cooking, craft, Bingo etc.
The Club also encourages integration into the community with trips to the local pub and for ten- pin bowling etc. In the summer we take a train trip to Severn Beach where a local café stays open for us. The highlight of our winter programme is the trip to the pantomine.
The Club has been in existence for 27 years and we always have a waiting list. Some of the members have been coming all that time!
For many of the members it is their only night out and has the added benefit of giving respite to their carers.
The funds we raise are needed to pay for the occasional trip out, materials for our art and crafts and basic materials for our cultural evenings.
The Club also provides transport for five of the members who live at home and would not be able to access the club otherwise.
A donation of £10 would provide transport for a member for 2 weeks. £100 would enable the whole club to go bowling.
The Club is entirely self-supporting and we are extremely grateful for any help we receive. Every penny we raise is used for the benefit of the members.
